The very first institution that was ever created in the universe was marriage.
Genesis 2:24 (ESV)
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
It was a profound and clear direction by God to be of mutual benefit to the man and the woman, but also to the created world over which they had dominion.
This weekend I will be unpacking a little of what the Apostle Paul had to say about the Christian household. The passage will be from Colossians 3:18-41, and I urge you to read it and to make your own notes. If marriage was the first institution in the world then it must be the example by which all other institutions ought to be modelled. Is your marriage worth emulating?
Just like the original marriage of Adam and Eve was meant to be of profound benefit to all of Creation, so too are our own families and households. It doesn’t matter whether you are married or not, the Christian household has been called and designed to be one of blessing to all the world. May you be encouraged by the Word of God as you consider His leading this week.
