When I look at this picture I get to wondering about what went on behind this door. It is no longer straight, but faded and weathered by the wind and the rain and the sun. I wonder what we would see looking through the broken and darkened window. I bet there’s a story tell.

The cynical amongst us might quip that all we’d see would be old cobwebs and dust. That there’s nothing useful or good to come of what is now outdated and past its useful life. Their conclusion might be to just keep walking and to look the other way.

As children of God we now have the ability to not only look through, but to see beyond just the physical. As we speak and relate with our friends and loved ones, I encourage you to see beyond what is obvious and to get a sense of the person. What is the story that God has given them?

1 Peter 3:15 (ESV)

15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

Ours is not to judge or condemn or criticise. These are the obvious things that this world is already good at. Disciples of Jesus are known by the love of God in and through our lives. Even as Judas went out to betray Him, Jesus told His disciples:

John 13:35 (ESV)

35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Despite our circumstances and the choices of the people around us, may we be a people who look beyond the facade and see the people that God has created. It is for these that Our Lord died. It is for these that we now remain.
